Smack Louis came in to update his acting headshots, and we used our time at Cobalt Studios PDX to build a set with some room to move. A headshot has to look like you, but that doesn't mean every photo needs to say exactly the same thing.

The olive shirt and warm brown background make the opening portrait feel direct and grounded. In the navy overshirt, against a lighter backdrop, the mood shifts without losing Smack. Then the gray jacket and black top bring a more tailored edge. We also photographed a simpler cream sweater look that puts all the attention back on his face.

A few looks, one person

That's what I like about a private session: we can try a change in wardrobe, crop, or expression, see what it does, and keep the frames that actually feel useful. Smack's set moves from tight headshots to portraits with more of his stance and styling in the frame. The variety gives him options while the person in every photograph stays unmistakably the same.

I had a great time making these with Smack, and I'd be happy to see what we can build the next time he needs an update.
