A "portrait"

Bring your portrait quest. Anything goes.
The title is vague on purpose.
Not everyone who gets here knows what style of portraiture they're looking for.
That's alright. You're on the right track.

If you don't already have a goalpost in mind for your portrait set, we'll help you find one and knock it right over. From quick, clean looks to chaotic productions, we love switching it up or exploring new realms of portraiture. We lead community, educate, and host themed shoots of all kinds out of our Portland studio. We've explored many styles and deeply appreciate new challenges.

In these frames, we have assorted studio and non-studio portrait sessions. This collection is a broader, less niche collection, so browse all categories! Whether you're someone who spends tons of time in front of a camera or typically cringes at the idea of having a lens pointed in your direction, my job is to make sure you're comfortable, allowing you to be loose for a classic headshot or able to act a part for an artistic session. I can guide a path to accomplish or discover just about any photography need you might have.

Highlighted Testimonials

"I did two photo shoots with Nilas and I heavily recommend. I came with very specific requests for two series of portraits and Michael went far out of his way to achieve the visions I wanted. Additionally Michael and his family were very warm and made the studio a welcoming, easy environment to be in. Michael is an artist and wonderful dude."

A Few Things Worth Mentioning

Good photographs don't necissarily happen because someone knows how to pose.

They happen because someone feels comfortable enough to be themselves.

Studio access is included.

Every portrait session includes complimentary access to Cobalt Studios in Southeast Portland if it's the right fit for your session.

Bring the weird ideas.

Some of my favorite photographs started as, "This might sound bizarre..."

Those are usually the fun ones.

Some sessions are polished. Some are wonderfully chaotic.

Both can make incredible photographs.

Portraits Specific FAQ

I’m not sure what type of portrait session I need. Which one should I choose?

Portrait sessions are designed around the person, not just a category. Whether you’re looking for a personal portrait, creative photos, updated images, gifts, or something that doesn’t fit neatly into another category, we’ll help determine the best approach during planning.

If you’re looking for something more specific, we also offer dedicated sessions for things like professional headshots, seniors, maternity, couples, and branding.

I’ve never had professional portraits taken. What should I expect?

Most people aren’t used to being in front of a camera, and that’s completely normal. A portrait session is guided from beginning to end. From choosing outfits and locations to posing, expressions, and creating images that feel natural.

You don’t need modeling experience or to know what to do in front of the camera.

What if I don’t know how to pose?

Don't stress it. That’s part of the process. We’ll guide you through natural movement, positioning, and expressions rather than leaving you wondering what to do.

The goal isn’t to make you look like someone else — it’s to create images that feel like you.

Can I bring multiple outfits?

Yes. Most portrait sessions allow for outfit changes depending on the session length and goals. We’ll help you decide what works best for the style of images you want.

Where do portrait sessions take place?

Portraits can be photographed at our studio or on location depending on the look you’re going for. Our studio provides controlled lighting, creative sets, and privacy, while outdoor locations can provide a more environmental feel.

Can I include other people in my portrait session?

Absolutely. Some sessions are focused on one person, while others naturally include partners, children, pets, or family members. If your session involves multiple people, we’ll help plan the best approach.

How many photos will I receive?

The number of final images depends on the session type and collection selected. Every delivered image is individually edited to match our style and quality standards.

Can I request a specific style or creative idea?

Yes. Portrait sessions are a great opportunity to create something unique. Whether you have a specific concept, inspiration, outfit, or mood in mind, we’ll collaborate to bring it to life.

Do you offer retouching?

All selected images receive professional editing. This includes color correction, exposure adjustments, and finishing touches. Additional detailed retouching can be discussed depending on the request.

Every session starts somewhere.

Sometimes it's a fully developed concept.

Sometimes it's just, "I think I need new photos."

Either way, we'll build something together.
