Awkward 80's mini-portraits Season 1

Caption below...

So, it all started when a couple decided to channel their inner '80s nostalgia and reached out on Craigslist for a photo session featuring their toddler. They specifically requested the classic 'floating dad head' theme—think JCPenney portraits or the kind of prints that proudly adorn grandma's hallway like trophies of questionable taste. And just like that, the legend was born.

Your future self will be eternally grateful for booking this portrait session. So go ahead, tease that hair up to the heavens or part it straight down the middle like it’s 1985. Dust off that blue jean jacket or strap on that waist belt—because it's time to unleash your true potential and make some questionable fashion choices that will haunt your family for generations.

Reflecting on Our First Season of Awkward 80's Portraits

As we wrap up our first season of Awkward 80's portraits at Cobalt Studios PDX, we can't help but chuckle at how this eccentric concept has taken off. Our Portland photography studio has always been a haven for the creatively inclined, but who knew that capturing the wonderfully awkward essence of the 1980s would be our ticket to climbing the Google image ranking ladder? We’re basically the avant-garde of nostalgia, and you can bet your flannel shirts this will hold weight as time goes on.

Turning Vision into Reality

We wanted to create an experience for families, individuals, teams, and companies to embrace their inner quirks and celebrate the distinctive facets of their personalities. And what better way to achieve this than by tapping into the vibrant, eclectic spirit of the 80s? If you’re not wrapped around your beloved's legs or pulling off the wheelbarrow, what's the point anyway? How can Papa speak back through the ether if he's not a floating head in the background?

A Welcoming Studio for All

At Cobalt Studios PDX, we believe that everyone deserves to feel at ease in front of the camera—especially when you're rocking a neon tracksuit. Our portrait sessions are designed to be enjoyable and laid-back, encouraging participants to express themselves without reservation. Whether you're sporting your brightest outfit or showcasing a hairstyle that defies gravity, we welcome it all! And let’s not forget our furry companions—pets are not just welcome; they are celebrated! Because what’s more Portland than capturing the special bond between you and your pet while sporting matching outfits?

Embracing Authenticity

With the Awkward 80's portraits, our primary aim is to provide a space where individuals can drop their defenses and embrace their true selves. In a world that often pushes for perfection, we revel in the beauty of imperfection—because let’s face it, who doesn’t love a good awkward pose? Each session has been a delightful blend of laughter, somberness, oddness, creativity, and a shared nostalgia for the 80s (mild or hefty). We’ve witnessed families unite, friends reconnect, and individuals shine in their unique ways, all while striking the most wonderfully awkward poses that will surely be the envy of your Social followers and future great-grand minions.

Looking Forward

As we reflect on this inaugural season, we hold gratitude for everyone who participated and helped make our Awkward 80's portraits a success (special thanks to two wedding couples and new community <3 ). Your willingness to embrace your quirks and showcase your individuality has made this journey truly memorable—and let’s be honest, it’s probably the most fun you’ve had since the days before you realized everything is a spec and death is inevitable. We eagerly anticipate continuing this adventure and inviting even more people to join us in celebrating the awkwardness that makes us all super-duper-special.

If you missed out this season, don’t flip the table. You may be decades late, but Awkward 80's portrait sessions have only just begun. Stay tuned for updates, and prepare to bring your best (or your most delightfully worst) to the lens.

Thank you for being a part of our journey at Cobalt Studios PDX. Here’s to more laughter, creativity, and, of course, awkwardness in the seasons to come! Because if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that awkwardness is timeless.
